2 <br /> 1 A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Price to <br /> 2 approve the Resolution of Commendation for Commissioner Mia Burroughs. <br /> 3 <br /> 4 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 5 <br /> 6 Commissioner Burroughs said one does not get to be a Commissioner without the <br /> 7 support of the voters, and she is deeply grateful, and this has been a life changing experience. <br /> 8 Commissioner Burroughs said the County has a lot of employees, and she only met <br /> 9 about a hundred out of the 966. She said the County has a lot of unsung heroes who serve the <br /> 10 County and the people very well. She asked if the department heads would express her <br /> 11 gratitude to the staff in their departments. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Chair Dorosin read the following Resolution: <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Resolution of Commendation for Commissioner Barry Jacobs <br /> 16 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 17 RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION FOR COMMISSIONER BARRY JACOBS <br /> 18 <br /> 19 WHEREAS, the residents of Orange County elected Barry Jacobs to the Board of County <br /> 20 Commissioners in 1998 and re-elected him in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014; and <br /> 21 <br /> 22 WHEREAS, Barry Jacobs was elected Chair of the Board of Commissioners in 2002, 2004, <br /> 23 2006, 2008, 2013 and 2014; and, Vice Chair in 2001, 2005 and 2007; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 WHEREAS, Barry has proven himself to be a dedicated and effective public servant who has <br /> 26 gained the respect of all who have known him in both the public and private sectors; and <br /> 27 <br /> 28 WHEREAS, Barry has taken a special interest in affordable housing, local agriculture, <br /> 29 environmental protection, recycling and solid waste, education, economic development, land <br /> 30 use, governmental efficiency, parks and recreation, libraries, social justice, and public access to <br /> 31 decision-making; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 WHEREAS, during his tenure as an Orange County Commissioner, Barry Jacobs has shared <br /> 34 his talent for leadership and public service through his work on numerous committees, boards, <br /> 35 and task forces at the state, regional and local levels; and <br /> 36 <br /> 37 WHEREAS, he has provided strong support for the local agricultural community through <br /> 38 programs such as the Annual Agricultural Summit (in its 201" year), the establishment of the <br /> 39 David Price Farmers' Market Pavilion, adding a county agricultural economic developer, <br /> 40 maintaining a strong Lands Legacy Program, and the Piedmont Food and Agricultural <br /> 41 Processing Center; and <br /> 42 <br /> 43 WHEREAS, Barry has encouraged improving communication and dialog with governing <br /> 44 partners, including the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Triangle J. Council of <br /> 45 Governments, Triangle Area Rural Planning Organization, and the Towns of Chapel Hill, <br /> 46 Carrboro, Hillsborough and Mebane; and <br /> 47 <br /> 48 WHEREAS, Barry has advocated to have partner participation on efforts including the Solid <br /> 49 Waste Advisory Group, the Rural Buffer, the Water and Sewer Management, Planning and <br />
