Reconfirmation of BOCC Goals <br />At the August 23, 2004 Joint County Commissioner /Planning Board Work Session the BOCC <br />requested a reconfirmation of their goals for the Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element <br />Update, <br />Attachment 1 — Letter from Craig Benedict to County Manager and BOCC dated <br />September 2, 2004 <br />Attachment 2 — 13 Growth Management Challenges <br />2. Land Use Element Update Initiatives /Sustainability <br />a. Urban -rural boundaries and Rural Activity Nodes — differentiation between urban spaces and <br />appropriate public services and rural spaces and appropriate public services. Discussion will <br />include the role of Rural Activity Nodes in the County. <br />Attachment 3 — Growth Management System Map <br />b. Watershed protection (surface and groundwater) — In the past, water resources have been <br />protected through limitations on density and impervious surfaces. Staff is presently studying <br />Low Impact Design (LID) techniques that could be used in conjunction with the proposed <br />lowering of residential density to reach the County's watershed protection goals. Generally, LID <br />is an innovative technological approach to stormwater management and ecosystem protection <br />
