Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 3 Commissioner Bedford had no comments. <br /> 4 Commissioner Marcoplos said he would like for the Board to consider a resolution <br /> 5 urging David Price to support the Green New Deal. He said he will write the resolution and <br /> 6 would like to add it to the agenda for December 11t" <br /> 7 Commissioner McKee petitioned the Board to back Commissioner Price's request to get <br /> 8 information from GoTriangle about the events that have happened over the last two weeks and <br /> 9 months. He said he would like to have this information as soon as possible. <br /> 10 Commissioner Marcoplos said he could address some of these issues. <br /> 11 Commissioner McKee said all should keep in mind the passing of the 41st President of <br /> 12 the United States, who, considering the political climate today, stands out as a shining example <br /> 13 of a gentlemanly leader. <br /> 14 Commissioner Price said the annual Agricultural Summit will be on Monday, February <br /> 15 11t" at Cedar Grove Community Center. She said all farmers are invited to participate and <br /> 16 should contact Tyrone Fisher. <br /> 17 Commissioner Price said she attended the Voluntary Ag District (VAD) breakfast and <br /> 18 thanked the landowners that have been participating in that program, and she thanked the <br /> 19 planners and organizers of this event and a shout out to Gail Hughes, Soil Conservationist. <br /> 20 Commissioner Price said she did not see any information about the widening of 1-40 on <br /> 21 the website, and asked if staff could provide some. <br /> 22 Commissioner Dorosin said today the UNC Board of Trustees (BOT) announced a <br /> 23 proposal to spend $5.3 million to house the Silent Sam statue, as well as additional funds to <br /> 24 maintain it. He petitioned the Board to send a letter opposing the restoration of the statue on <br /> 25 campus and the exorbitant cost of this building. <br /> 26 Commissioner Greene said the Chapel Hill — Carrboro holiday parade is this Saturday. <br /> 27 Chair Rich also attended the VAD breakfast and some farmers came up to her and <br /> 28 thanked her for the food council. She said she also learned the history of the Schley Grange. <br /> 29 Chair Rich attended the Triangle J Council of Governments (TJCOG) meeting and they <br /> 30 picked one challenge to work on this year, which is the recruitment and retention of law <br /> 31 enforcement. She said this is an issue across the state, and came particularly from the Town of <br /> 32 Garner. She said she talked with the Sheriff and it is not a problem here in Orange County. <br /> 33 Chair Rich said she and Commissioner Marcoplos met with their representatives from <br /> 34 OWASA and would like to do this quarterly. She said they discussed the water main break and <br /> 35 learned a great deal. She said there is an independent study going on currently to determine <br /> 36 the next steps. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br /> 39 <br /> 40 a. Resolution of Recognition for James Stanford <br /> 41 The Board considered voting to approve a resolution expressing gratitude and <br /> 42 recognizing James (Jamie) C. Stanford for his service as Orange County Clerk of Superior <br /> 43 Court and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 44 Commissioner McKee read the resolution: <br /> 45 <br /> 46 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 47 RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION FOR JAMES STANFORD <br /> 48 <br /> 49 WHEREAS, James (Jamie) C. Stanford has served as Orange County Clerk of Superior Court <br /> 50 since May 2001 and was elected four times by the people of Orange County; and <br />
