Attachmentl <br />5 <br />Proposed Animal Services Director <br />Purpose <br />The Animal Services Director will serve as department head. He or she will plan, <br />develop, and lead animal services programs and staff, including both Animal Shelter <br />and Animal Control services. <br />Needs Addressed <br />1. Integrates animal services functions under a single professional manager whose <br />primary responsibility is to provide leadership, strategic planning and direction on <br />animal welfare needs as well as forging community partnerships on animal issues. <br />2. Strengthens capacity to assess needs, design and develop programs and implement <br />improvements including essential planning for replacement facilities for the animal <br />shelter and animal control services. <br />3. Enhances ability to anticipate, monitor and respond to the issues and proposed <br />remedies concerning county shelters that are increasing at both the local and state <br />level. <br />Examples of Job Functions <br />1. Provide managerial leadership and direction for animal services programs and staff. <br />2. Represents the department as department head, assuring necessary coordination <br />and reporting to the Manager's Office and other County departments. <br />3. Develops planned outcomes, activities and performance measures for the animal <br />services organization. <br />4. Oversees the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff. <br />5. Develops disaster management plans to provide for animal welfare in the event of <br />natural or other disaster, including coordination with involved community groups and <br />volunteers and public information. Coordinates disaster response. <br />6. Develops and recommends needed updates ar amendments to Animal Control <br />ordinances and assures these are coordinated with relevant State laws. <br />7. Directs the development and implementation of shelter and animal control policies, <br />procedures, and protocols, including those relating to disease management, <br />euthanasia, and sanitation. Assure necessary employee communication and <br />training in policies and procedures. <br />
