Minutes - Regular Meeting <br /> Solid Waste Advisory Board <br /> October 2, 2008 <br /> Approved January 15, 2009 <br /> Attendance : Jan Sassaman, Al Vickers, Remus Smith, and Michelle Grunwald <br /> Staff: Blair Pollock, Paul Spire, and Wanda McCain <br /> Guest: Phil Barner, Ray DuBose, and John Mason <br /> 1 . Adoption of Minutes from September 4 SWAB meeting Smith moves to accept. <br /> Vickers 2nd . Passes unanimously <br /> 2 . Board Member Comments None <br /> 3 . Landfill Gas Recovery Project - UNC/Olver Inc . Presentation by John Masson, UNC <br /> Facilities Dept. with Question and Answer session following a version of the Power <br /> Point slide show given to the public after the SWAB presentation is available at the <br /> County' s web site : www . co . oran eg nc . us and click on " What' s new" and then <br /> " Landfill Gas Public Information Meeting" <br /> Questions and Comments During the Presentation <br /> Sassaman asks what is the pressure . <br /> Mason replies it' s relatively low pressure . <br /> Pollock asks if the gas cleaning will be done at the landfill site . <br /> Mason replies yes . <br /> Vickers asks what air emissions are expected at the cleaning operation . <br /> Masson replies none are expected but there might be some condensate from cleaning <br /> up the gas . <br /> Dubose adds that it would be condensate similar to the leachate [from the landfill] <br /> that is currently dealt with [by putting it in the OWASA Sanitary sewer] and it will be <br /> a very small quantity . <br /> Sassaman asks what is the BTU value of that gas, about 500 ? <br /> Barner replies typically yes . <br /> Use of methane gas has been discussed for a long time and we believe the gas will <br /> reach peak capacity soon after . That part of Chapel Hill is growing and the gas will be <br /> ity at the Giles Hornet' building where UNC' s facilities <br /> used to provide electric <br /> 1 <br />
