ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 17, 2005 <br />Action Agertd~ <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Resolution Establishing the Orange County Unified Transportation Advisory Board <br />DEPARTMENT: Planning and Inspections PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Resolution Establishing OCl)TAB <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Karen Lincoln, ext. 2594 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane (336)227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution establishing a transportation advisory board far Orange <br />County to study transportation issues in Orange County and, as appropriate, advise the BOCC, <br />BACKGROUND: The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), on February 28, 2005, discussed <br />the formation of a transportation advisory board, and agreed to create the Orange County Unified <br />Transportation Advisory Board having 14 members with a BOCC liaison (total of 15 members): <br />• 7 members, one from each Township, with knowledge/interest in transportation issues; <br />• 5 members from advisory boards having transportation interests, one from each board lis <br />- BOCC (will serve as a liaison); <br />- Planning Board; <br />- Economic Development Commission; <br />- Commission For the Environment; <br />- Transportation Services Board; <br />• 1 at large member with expertise/interest in bicycle transportation; <br />• 1 at large member with expertise/interest in pedestrian access/safety; and <br />• 1 at large member with expertise/interest in transit, <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no immediate financial impact associated with this agenda item; <br />however, the Orange County Unified Transportation Advisory Board would require additional staff <br />time including assistance for the Transportation Planner, <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the resolution <br />establishing the Orange County Unified Transportation Advisory Board. <br />
