Z
( 6 ) Upper Eno River Watershed critical areas . Cooperate with the Eno River
Association on land acquisition and conservation easements in critical areas in the
Upper Eno watershed . Using data generated by Dobyns & Suggs ( CWMTF grant) ,
work collaboratively on protecting high priority tracts .
( 7 ) Upper New Hope Creek . Cooperate with TLC and New Hope Creek Corridor
Advisory Committee ( NHCCAC) on land acquisition , conservation easements ( and
land management) in the Upper New Hope Creek watershed . The recent 10 -year
report from the NHCCAC calls for increased riparian protection efforts along the
upper reaches of New Hope Creek ( upstream of the Johnston Mill Preserve ) . Also ,
the TLC report, Rating Land in Orange County for its Wildlife Value ( 1999 ) , identified
this area as containing some substantial areas of less fragmented hardwood forest .
The CfE 's State of the .Environment Report 2000 , also identifies the headwaters of
New Hope Creek and central County uplands , as priorities for protection .
Kohorn noted that more generally , the BRC feels that all opportunities for
protection of riparian habitats throughout the county should be seriously
considered , for both biological protection , as well as for improvement of
water quality . Conservation opportunities outside of the above
recommendations should not be excluded from consideration .
The CfE discussed the above recommendations in regard to what locations
would be considered short - term versus long - term projects .
MOTION : Kohorn made motioned to approve the recommendations as
stated for compilation with other advisory boards recommendations for
submittal to the BOCC . Seconded by Okun .
VOTE : Unanimous .
VI . Draft AFLEV Report
Stancil reported on the draft report on alternative vehicle options from the
Alternative Fuel and Low Emission Vehicles ( AFLEV ) Work Group . He noted
that the work group was following up on resolutions adopted by BOCC in
1999 . Those resolutions directed staff to begin an Ozone Air Quality Action
Plan , to investigate low emission and fuel - efficient vehicles , and to examine
the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs ) as an option for county fleet
emissions reduction . The AFLEV Work Group was established to lead the
investigation of these latter issues and to propose an action plan , which
includes the potential purchase of a number of AFVs .
DRAFT CFE 10/09/00 Minutes Page 3 of 7
L:\Carol\CFEMIN\CFE NOV2000-richreviscd .doc
