Activities and Progress During 2000/2001 <br /> • The BOCC adopted two resolutions in 1999 that were developed in response to <br /> the CfE recommendations . The BOCC resolutions ( 1 ) established a committee to <br /> research a plan to use alternative- fueled vehicles , improve fleet maintenance , <br /> and/or reduce vehicle miles traveled, and (2) directed that low emission and fuel <br /> efficient vehicles be considered for future purchases of vehicles for the County <br /> fleet . <br /> • The Alternative Fuels and Low Emissions Vehicles (AFLEV) workgroup was <br /> formed . It consisted of members of the CfE ; a citizen with interests in electric and <br /> solar vehicles ; and County staff _from ERCD , Engineering, Public Works , <br /> Purchasing, and Planning . <br /> • The AFLEV workgroup met on a routine basis during 2000 . <br /> • The AFLEV workgroup prepared a report that included a plan for purchasing six <br /> compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles , a CNG refueling station, one electric <br /> vehicle, and a charging station . The report was submitted to the BOCC in <br /> November 2000 . <br /> • The ERCD , with input from the AFLEV workgroup and CfE, prepared a Mobile <br /> Sources Emissions Reduction (MSER) grant that was submitted to the State of <br /> North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources in December <br /> 2000 . <br /> Status <br /> • The MSER grant was not funded . The program has been de4unded due to the <br /> State budget problems . The program has been temporarily suspended , no grant <br /> applications will be accepted for FY ' 02 . <br /> • The County purchased low emission vehicles during 2001 that were replacement <br /> vehicles . <br /> • The CfE is currently identifying other potential funding sources for AFLEVs . <br /> Plans for 2002 to Address the Goal <br /> • The AFLEV workgroup will prepare a status report summarizing progress on <br /> LEV purchase during 2001 . <br /> • The AFLEV workgroup will prepare a plan for purchasing low emission and/or <br /> alternative fueled vehicles during 2002 . <br /> • The CfE and ERCD will research other funding and grant opportunities for <br /> purchase of alternative fuel and low emission vehicles . <br /> 17 <br />
