w <br /> The Air Quality Committee of the CFE has set the following goals related to air quality : <br /> 1 . Greater awareness of transportation and air pollution issues in the County <br /> 2 . Creation of a regional view of air quality issues <br /> 3 . Reduction of the impact of the County vehicle fleet on air quality <br /> 4 . Examine and Address Light Pollution Issues in the County <br /> Since the publication of the SOE Report, the CFE has worked on a number of projects to <br /> address these goals . As part of their work, the CFE generated recommendations for a set <br /> of resolutions related to air quality that were subsequently adopted by the Board of <br /> County Commissioners (BOCC) . The BOCC , in the spring of 2001 , also adopted a goal <br /> for the County - to take proactive steps to improve and/or protect air quality within the <br /> County. The BOCC goal has three objectives that are consistent with the goals stated in <br /> the CFE SOE Report . The progress , status , and plans for CFE activities related to air <br /> quality during the coming year are presented below within the context of the three <br /> objectives stated in the BOCC Air Quality Goal for the County. <br /> GOAL 1 : GREATER AWARENESS OF TRANSPORTATION AND AIR POLLUTION <br /> ISSUES IN THE COUNTY <br /> Objective 1 : Review the N . C . Division of Air Quality' s Emissions Inventory <br /> for the Count and identify initiatives at Count level that could be pursued <br /> Y� Y Y p ;< <br /> to address air quality concerns . (Related SOE Report goal - Gain a better <br /> quantitative understanding of the sources of air pollution in the County and <br /> the relationship between air quality and mobile sources within and outside the County. ) <br /> Activities and Progress During 2000/2001 <br /> • The BOCC adopted a resolution in 1999 built around recommendations by the <br /> CFE authorizing the creation of an ozone air quality action plan for the County. <br /> • The status of air quality and air contaminant sources in the County was reviewed <br /> by the CFE air quality committee in 1999 and summarized in the lst Annual SOE <br /> Report . <br /> Status <br /> An Ozone Air Quality Action Plan was developed in 2000 and is being <br /> implemented by the County. <br /> • There has been a low level of activity on this goal during the past year . <br /> • The CFE and ERCD are developing a plan for addressing this goal during the first <br /> half of 2002 . <br /> 14 <br />
