Specific proposals were discussed with consultant Jerry <br /> Gaertner. <br /> • Orange County re- established a Forest Stewardship Committee to help improve <br /> inter- agency coordination and communication of proposed forest management <br /> plans and activities administered by the NC Forest Service . <br /> • Representatives Insko and Hackney and Senators Kinnaird and Lee introduced <br /> state legislation (House Bill 840 and Senate Bill 724) , which would establish a <br /> forestry pilot program that promotes collaborative efforts among counties , local <br /> Soil and Water Conservation Districts and the NC Division of Forest Resources . <br /> Status <br /> • The proposed legislation was not enacted . CFE interest in these issues remains <br /> high . Further actions are being considered . <br /> Plans for 2002 to Address the Goal <br /> • A subcommittee of the CFE ' s Biological Resources Committee and the Planning <br /> Board will meet on an ad hoc basis to discuss forest management/harvesting <br /> issues and to develop recommendations for both advisory boards to consider <br /> before elevating the issues to the BOCC . <br /> 12 <br />
