Orange County <br /> State of the Environment Progress Report 2001 <br /> December 10 , 2001 <br /> The Commission for the Environment Progress Report for 2001 is an interim report on <br /> the current progress of the four committees : Air Quality, Biological Resources , <br /> Environmental Indicators and Education, and the newly formed Water Resources <br /> Committee . The status of their progress is based upon the 1 " State of the Environment <br /> Report ( SOE) , dated February 18 , 2000 in which the Orange County Commission for the <br /> Environment (CfE) set goals related to environmental protection, education, and <br /> management . In this report, the committees state the goals , identified objectives , and <br /> current status of their work . <br /> The Biological Resources Committee for the CfE has set the following goals related to <br /> biological diversity and natural resource protection . <br /> 1 ) More and better information available about biological resources in Orange <br /> County <br /> 2) Increased protection for biological areas of concern <br /> 3 ) More effective conservation policies <br /> i <br /> vt Y <br /> 4 \• <br /> a <br /> ift ' <br /> VI <br /> Since the publication of the SOE Report, the CFE has worked on a number of projects to <br /> address these goals . The progress , status , and plans for CFE activities related to <br /> biological resources during the coming year are presented below . <br /> GOAL 1 : MORE AND BETTER INFORMATION AVAILABLE ABOUT BIOLOGICAL <br /> RESOURCES <br /> Objective 1 : An improved inventory of biological resources in the northern half of the <br /> County, including a ground-based investigation of large forest tracts identified in <br /> Landscape with Wildlife (Parts I & II) . Include private lands where site review is <br /> permitted. <br />
