Progress and Plans: <br /> • The County ' s Farmland preservation plan is conducted under the auspices of the Lands Legacy Program. <br /> The Agricultural Preservation Board oversees these efforts . The program has already made key purchases <br /> and the recent passage of the Parks , Recreation, and Open Space Bond gives it additional funds to work <br /> with. <br /> • The Natural Areas Inventory update is scheduled for completion in summer 2002 <br /> • The Air Quality Committee is addressing the development of bikeways <br /> • The report on sustainability indicators was completed this year and the committee plans to further study <br /> the indicators related to environmental quality and assign priorities <br /> • The committee collected and reviewed environmental information that is available to citizens and will <br /> develop a proposal for further public education and a public relations campaign. <br /> • The committee will review and make recommendations on the environmental impact ordinance ' s <br /> environmental indicators . <br /> • The committee has reviewed and will continue to study the applicability of a Cost of Community Services <br /> Study (COCS ) to Orange County, <br /> Water Resources <br /> Objectives: <br /> • Help ensure an adequate supply of water of high quality <br /> • Help ensure adequate sanitary disposal of wastewaters <br /> • Help maintain the quality of surface waters <br /> Progress and Plans: <br /> • The County ' s original Water Resources Committee completed the Report of the Water Resources <br /> Committee on March 17 , 2001 . The report provides a foundation for initial efforts to both understand and <br /> plan a strategy for managing potential water supply and wastewater disposal problems in the County. <br /> • The CFE formed a new Water Resources Committee in 2001 to continue work on this important resource <br /> • With the cooperation of the Triangle J COG and other regional agencies , the newly formed Water <br /> Resources Committee of the CFE will help bring data together to begin planning for the future water <br /> needs of the County. <br /> 6 <br />
