INFORMATION CONTACT : <br /> Eric Griffin , ext 968 -2050 <br /> Rosemary Summers , ext . 2400 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS . <br /> Hillsborough 732 = 8181 <br /> Chapel Hill 968 =4501 <br /> Durham 688 = 7331 <br /> Mebane 336 -227 = 2031 <br /> PURPOSE : To officially recognize the newly implemented H2Orange Drought Response Program . <br /> BACKGROUND : The H2Orange Drought Response Program held its kick - off with a press briefing <br /> Friday , September 13 , with representatives of Wal- Mart of Durham /Chapel Hill on hand to donate <br /> over 1 , 000 gallons of bottled water to area human services agencies and the Orange County Social <br /> Services Department for their needy clients . <br /> H2Orange is a work group comprised of local water suppliers , municipalities , government <br /> agencies , non- profits , and the agricultural community collaboratively working to empower citizens to <br /> conserve water and develop strategies for the months ahead . The multi -faceted campaign <br /> addresses drought awareness , water conservation strategies , and encouraging consumer use of <br /> water saving devices . <br /> As water restrictions tighten , wells begin to dry up and the demand for water increases , local <br /> communities search for solutions to the five -year drought . H2Orange will work to address these <br /> issues . <br /> H2Orange will have an informational display at this Board of County Commissioners meeting . <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT : None <br /> RECOMMENDATION ( S ) : The Manager recommends that the Board officially recognize the <br /> important work of H2Orange . <br />
