38 <br /> The Chapel Hill News <br /> Town wants <br /> University <br /> to clean up <br /> ' Wednesday, July 24 , 2002 <br /> waste sites <br /> Town Council is expected to review a <br /> ; staff report Friday on two sites where <br /> chemistry department and hospital <br /> wastes were deposited years ago. <br /> By KIRK Ross <br /> Staff Writer <br /> CHAPEL HILL — Town officials say <br /> they 'd like to see a closer examination of the <br /> potential hazards from waste sites at the uni- <br /> versity's Horace Williams property along <br /> with , a clear timetable for cleanup of the <br /> sites . <br /> " It's time for the university to make a firm <br /> commitment with a firm timeline to correct <br /> the problem , " Town Council member Bill <br /> Strom said after an initial review of materi- <br /> al forwarded to the town by the university <br /> on Friday. <br /> The university included thousands of <br /> pages of technical reports on monitoring' <br /> wells along with correspondence . between <br /> university and state environmental officials <br /> over the waste sites . <br /> The Chapel Hill Town Council is expected <br /> to review a staff report on the sites on Fri- <br /> day.
