ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT <br /> Summary of Meeting May 8, 2000 <br /> Held at Orange County Southern Human Services Center, <br /> Chapel Hill , NC <br /> Members Present : , Cara Crisler, Julie Tucker, Kris Price , Loraine Kohorn , <br /> Annette Jurgelski , Laura Cotterman , Mark Smith . <br /> Excused Absences : Roy Fortmann , Dan Okun , Hervey McIver, Richard Pratt, <br /> William Glaze , Rosalinda Lidh , Lee Rafalow . <br /> Staff Present : David Stancil , ERCD Director, Rich Shaw, ERCD Land <br /> Conservation Manager, Carol Crawford , ERCD Administrative Assistant . <br /> I . Call to Order . <br /> Chair Price called the meeting to order at 7 : 45 p . m . <br /> II . Additions or Changes to Agenda . <br /> Stancil reported that Shaping Orange County Task Force would hold a <br /> community forum on May 18 at Stanback Middle School . The provisional report is <br /> on the ERCD web page for review . CfE members will receive in the mail a <br /> summary document about the report and are invited to attend the forum . <br /> Price noted a change in the agenda to move up Item # V — Quarry Expansion <br /> Discussion , to allow Tucker to attend another meeting at Chapel Hill Town Hall . <br /> III . Approval of Minutes (April 10, 2000 ) . <br /> Approval of the April 10th meeting minutes was postponed due to lack of <br /> quorum . <br /> V . Discussion of Mitigation Measures for the Quarry Expansion . <br /> Tucker reported that she brought this issue to the CfE 's attention at the April <br /> meeting and said she would attend the April 12 public hearing and report back to <br /> the CfE . First, she asked Stancil to review the status of the proposed American <br /> Stone quarry expansion . Stancil reviewed a handout with a summary of the <br /> proposal that was prepared for the Chapel Hill Town Council , including a memo <br /> from the Town Manager and a draft of the post hearing report . <br /> The proposed quarry expansion would create another water supply reservoir/ <br /> holding area once the quarry operations are completed in 30 years .
