t
Next Steps
As the Work Group continues to develop its proposed master plan, a number of important
activities will take place :
o Each subcommittee will conduct "Design Charettes " (the Township Park
Subcommittee began their charette on April 10) , to develop a vision for the site
that will then be translated into a draft concept plan for the two parts of the site
o The subcommittees will review and refine the individual draft concept plans -
regularly sharing information with the other subcommittee at the close of each
meeting and working to ensure that plans are compatible
o In May, the subcommittees will present their concept plans to the Work Group ,
and the Work Group will integrate the concept plans into a proposed Master Plan
with phasing and projected costs
o The Work Group will hold a community forum to share its draft Master Plan
o The Work Group ' s Master Plan will be presented to the Board of Commissioners
for review and approval in August/September
o Once the Board has approved the Master Plan and addressed the phasing and
action plan for site construction, a Conditional Use Permit application will be
submitted to the Town of Carrboro (it is estimated by Town staff that this review
process will take approximately one year)
Issues for Possible Action
1 . Name of the Site
The working name for the property has been the Chapel Hill Township Park and
Educational Campus (or CHATPEC for short) . At the Board ' s instruction, possible
Occonneechi/Saponi names were solicited from the tribal linguist . Other English names
have also been previously identified . A listing of these possible names is included as
Attachment 1 . The Board may wish to discuss whether to provide the site with a
permanent or another working name .
2 . Additional Instruction on Potential Facilities
The Work Group has generated and refined a list of potential facilities for the park site ,
using the CHATPEC Master Plan Process document, feedback from County/Town
advisory boards , and work group deliberation . This is not a list of all planned facilities ,
but is instead a working list from which the group is identifying potential facilities for all
phases of the project, while looking at site constraints as well as needs .
The adopted Master Plan Process indicated the potential for additional Board direction on
the Master Plan to be provided . The Board may wish to review the list (Attachment 2)
and, if desired, provide feedback to the Work Group on items that should be/should not
be included in the design . The current working list is attached, along with a categorical
assessment of the relative cost of facilities .
