Call to Order . <br /> Tucker called the meeting to order at 7 : 30 p . m . <br /> II . Additions or Changes to Agenda . <br /> Stancil reported that the Capital Needs Task Force is in place and McIver has <br /> been appointed to that group . <br /> III . Approval of Minutes (January 8 , 2001 ) . <br /> MOTION : Crisler motioned to approve the January 8 , 2001 with noted changes . <br /> Fortmann seconded the motion . <br /> VOTE : Unanimous consent . <br /> IV . Selective Forestry Opportunities <br /> Jerry Gaertner , forestry consultant ( North State Forestry Consulting Co . ) <br /> made a presentation on the lack of local markets for selective timber <br /> harvesting and the potential for a local cooperative of private landowners . <br /> Gaertner showed figures for the relative contributions of sediment runoff to <br /> water quality degradation from forestry , agriculture , road construction and <br /> urban land uses . The average corn field , tobacco field or cow pasture <br /> produces about seven times more sedimentation . Along with sedimentation <br /> comes pesticides , fertilizer nutrients and temperature change . He noted that <br /> although forestry is not a major contributor , there is still room for <br /> improvement .
