Hague : <br /> The County of Orange (N . C . ) Board of Commissioners would like to express our Board ' s <br /> concern with two public lands policies in the National Association of Counties (NACo ) <br /> American County platform : <br /> • Opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas exploration, and <br /> • Requiring county approval prior to sale of private property to the federal government . <br /> All five members of our Board feel that these positions are contrary to important national <br /> efforts to promote energy conservation and investment in new energy resources , and that <br /> the opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas exploration will not <br /> result in sufficient energy supplies to justify the potential of compromising a national <br /> wildlife refuge . <br /> In action of February 20 , 2001 , the Board of Commissioners reviewed these matters , and <br /> unanimously decided to request that the Association reconsider these positions . <br /> Sincerely , <br /> 4 a <br /> Stephen H .
