Orange County Space Needs Report ~ 2005 Update <br /> Page 32 of 69 <br /> Department Space Needs Summaries <br /> Department Name : Health Department ( except Health Department : Environmental <br /> Health , which is addressed elsewhere in this report) <br /> Project Development Phase : Tier 3A <br /> Current Location : Whiffed Human Services Building , Hillsborough <br /> Current Departmental Square Footage : 12 , 217 <br /> Current # Employees : 60 ( note : includes Dental and some employees that float <br /> between SHSC and Whiffed clinics) <br /> Proposed Square Footage : 16 , 065 ( plus 30 % Circulation factor) <br /> Options to accommodate space needs <br /> Option # 1 : <br /> This solution assumes that the main Library will be relocated from the Whitted <br /> Building to an alternative location , although a cybrary/branch . library would <br /> remain on site at the Whitted complex . The approximately 12 , 500 square feet <br /> currently assigned to the Library would be reassigned to , DSS and , Health . <br /> Consideration could also be given to constructing a mezzanine floor over the <br /> current library . Structural analysis of the existing building must be carried out <br /> prior to consideration of a mezzanine , however . <br /> The primary focus of any expansion within the Health Department at Whitted <br /> must be directed toward clinic space . The Health Department reports that with <br /> the advent of primary care , the number of clients seen by the health department <br /> will rise significantly . Primary care , initiated January 4 , 2005 in this clinic has <br /> already seen 57 new patients , with 76 different visits . As information about the <br /> availability of primary care through the Health Department becomes more <br /> widespread in the community , the numbers are likely to increase . The Health <br /> Department estimates at least 500 additional patients will be seen through the <br /> primary care clinics , with approximately 750 visits . It is also noteworthy that <br /> primary care places unique demands on the facility . Since Primary Care visits <br /> are sick visits , often unplanned and requiring immediate attention , an increased <br /> per day client load in Hillsborough is expected . <br /> The Dental Clinic , co - located with the Hillsborough Health Clinic , is serving at <br /> capacity , considering present space and staff . A routine six- month cleaning may <br /> have a wait of three months to get an appointment because the volume of <br /> patients cannot be served in the existing space , Between 2000 and 2004 , the <br /> 32 <br />
