MEMORANDUM
FROM: Dale Teer, Orange County Animal Control Officer P
TO: Orange County Planning Dept. AT-IN.- Craig Benedict
SUBJECT: Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Chestnut Ridge
DATE: March 19, 2003
I can think of no reason why it would not be a good idea for Dr. Schopler's practice
to be located at Camp Chestnut Ridge. Birds are very beneficial creatures because of the
enormous amounts of harmful insects and rodents they consume. Very few veterinarians
are willing, qualified, or licensed to rehabilitate wildlife. Dr. Schopler has been an
extremely valuable asset to Orange County Animal Control and to Orange County
citizens in the past, while employed at the animal sanctuary on Nicks Rd.
Camp Chestnut Ridge, being located near the center of Orange County would be a
very convenient location to Animal Control and the public. At the present time we do not
have a close facility to handle injured, orphaned and sick wildlife. We look forward to
working with Dr. Schopler again in the future.
Cc: John Sauls
248
