• Katie has sent a letter of intent to Z Smith Reynolds Foundation proposing a partnership <br />with Hillsborough Arts Council’s Free Spirit Freedom, the Empowerment Project and <br />Orange County Department of Human Services to explore the potential for African- <br />American public art. <br />• Katie is preparing a proposal to the County regarding OCAC’s potential leadership in the <br />2019 LocalFest event. <br />• Katie has completed the white paper detailing a vision for a community arts center. This <br />has been reviewed by the Arts Leadership group. Katie will incorporate their <br />suggestions and send to OCAC board for review and comment. <br />• Katie will be meeting with representatives of the Hillsborough Arts Council about a call <br />to artists to create a public art piece from the Red Oak “Treasure Tree” that was felled <br />by Hurricane Florence. <br /> <br />V. Committee Reports: <br />• Events Committee – Doris & Katie <br />• The Events Committee discussed implementing quarterly artist Meet-&-Greet <br />events. Plans for the first one at Vecino in Carrboro in November are underway. <br />• Events Committee will talk with the Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership to <br />explore the possibility of matching retail/commercial sites with artists as an <br />opportunity to display their work. <br />• We have reached out to Duke’s Director of Programming to explore the <br />possibility of an Orange County Literary Festival. <br />• Katie will explore further the possibility of a public art “Art Prize” event similar <br />to that held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The public votes on favorite public art <br />pieces; awards are given. <br />• Chris has suggested an informal dinner at his home for community arts <br />supporters and leaders as an opportunity to build relationships and foster <br />candid and creative discussion. <br />• Literary Arts Committee – Ashley <br />• Meeting with high school teachers about expanding the student writing <br />competition previously sponsored by Chris Kubica. <br />• Exploring possibility of a kid friendly Literary Walk in Hillsborough. We will be <br />speaking with the Hillsborough Arts Council about a potential partnership with <br />them as well as Purple Crow bookstore and local writers. <br />• Exploring the possibility of an Orange County writer’s podcast or blog. <br />• Exploring the possibility of producing high-quality broadsides incorporating <br />visual arts and the written word. <br />• Fundraising Committee – to be rescheduled.
