• Katie is traveling to Lawrence, KS September 23-25 with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro <br />Chamber of Commerce. <br />• Katie is serving in an advisory role to a coalition of clergy regarding the Equal Justice <br />Memorial. Fred announced that interested persons should contact Sr Pastor Cameron <br />Barr at the United Church of Chapel Hill for more information and involvement. <br />• Katie is meeting with Orange County Public Schools and Chapel Hill Carrboro City <br />Schools to determine the best was to establish a “substitute teacher fund” for Arts <br />Educators. <br />• Katie is scheduled to serve on a committee with officials from Chapel Hill to discuss the <br />future of the Varsity Theater. It’s for sale and the Town wants to turn it into a <br />performing arts venue. <br />• Board members are asked to suggest artists for the 2019 “Arts Moment” at the <br />beginning of each Board of Commissions meeting. Please send your suggestions to <br />Katie. <br />• Katie continues to work with Orange County Economic Development Director, Steve <br />Brantley, to develop a proposal for a Creative Business Challenge. <br />• Katie has meet with Carmen Elliott, several artists and representatives from C3 and Eno <br />Mill about possible studio space solutions. Good progress with C3 to turn their upstairs <br />into space for 14 visual artists. <br />• Katie is still working on the Z Smith Reynolds grant. <br />• OCAC will have a booth at Festifall – Sunday, October 7th <br />• We need volunteers to carry the OCAC 9’ puppet in the Handmade Parade on Sunday, <br />October 17th. Line up at 1:30 – parade starts at 2:30 and lasts about an hour with lots of <br />fun after. <br /> <br />V. Katie distributed her proposal for changes to our 2019-2020 grants process (see attached). <br />A discussion followed with several questions raised: A balance between OCAC board <br />members and community participants. What about Arts Ed? Diversity important. <br />Confidentiality. Access to Submittable by volunteers. Value of face-to-face discussions. <br />Choose volunteer artists from grant recipients who have followed through on commitments <br />associated with their grant. It was agreed to move forward with proposed changes with <br />consideration of questions raised. <br /> <br />VI. Katie needs proofreaders for the State of the Arts and Culture in Orange County report to be <br />distributed widely to town and county officials, stakeholders, etc. <br /> <br />VII. Liaison Reports <br />o Tim – Visitors Bureau <br />Visitor’s Bureau still focused on airbnb tax registration issues. UNC’s <br />Visitor’s Bureau moving from campus to Franklin Street. Colonial Inn <br />restoration still on track.
