<br />ORANGE COUNTY ARTS COMMISSION <br />June 11, 2018 at 6:30 <br />Chapel Hill Public Library, Room A <br />Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br />Board Members present: Chris Kubica, Vice Chair; Doris Friend, Secretary; Dan Mayer, Ashley Nissler, <br />Marcela Slade, Marlon Torres, , Anita Mills, Bronwyn Merritt , Fred Joiner, Helen Jones, Delia Keefe <br />Board Members absent: Tim Hoke, Tarish Pipkins, Linda Williamson, Tinka Jordy <br />Staff Present: Katie Murray, Executive Director <br /> <br />I. Chris called the meeting to order at 6:30. <br /> <br />II. Ashley moved, Anita seconded to approve the May 14th minutes. Motion passed. <br /> <br />III. Director’s Report <br />• Katie has posted the intern position vacancy on the Orange County website and <br />several other websites. <br />• Thanks to Ashley and Dan for attending Arts Day in Raleigh. We were able to meet <br />with Representative Meyer and Senator Foushee. <br />• Katie will be attending the Americans for the Arts national conference in Denver <br />June 13 – 17, 2018. <br />• Katie will be contacting board members about scheduling sub-committee meetings <br />when she returns from Denver. <br />• Katie met with Orange County Economic Development Director, Steve Brantley, <br />regarding small business grants for creative businesses. Mr. Brantley was receptive <br />to the idea. Katie will be preparing a proposal. <br /> <br />IV. Grants <br />• We have $65,470 to award in this year’s grant cycle. This amount may increase a little. <br />Sixty-seven artists have applied for grassroots/artist project grants. This is a significant <br />increase over previous years. Due to the large number of grants to be reviewed, it was <br />suggested that each board member be designated as “lead reader” on a group of grants <br />and the entire board will be responsible for reviewing all grants. We will meet on <br />Saturday, July 14th at 9:00 a.m. to discuss and award. <br /> <br />At 7:00, Katie lead the board through the new on-line grant software. <br /> <br />Chris adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m. <br />Respectfully submitted, Doris Friend, OCAC Secretary
