Be at or below the HUD fifty (50) percent AMI limit for the County.
Note that veterans, at this time, will not be given a preference under the new
Local Rent Supplement Program due to the fact that OCHA has a current VASH
Voucher Program that is solely for chronically homeless veterans. This does not
negate a veteran from applying and claiming a preference under one of the
other categories.
ELIGIBILTY The Orange County Housing Authority requires that households, at time of entry
into the program, be at or below fifty (50) percent of the Area Median Income
(AMI). Additionally, the OCHA must provide at least fifty percent (50%) of its
local vouchers to applicants whose income does not exceed thirty (30) percent of
the AMI. HUD income limits may also be used since they are similar to Housing
Choice Voucher income limits.
APPLYING TO THE WAITING LIST Any individual/family who wishes to receive rental subsidies under the OC Local
Rent Supplement Program must apply for admission to the program. The Local
Rent Supplement Program has a separate Waiting List and assistance is restricted
to persons who are at or below fifty percent (50%) of the AMI. Priority will be
given to Homeless Individuals/Families, Persons At Risk of Homelessness,
Senior/Elderly Disabled Individuals, and Victims of Domestic Violence.
ACESSIBILITY OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS The application will be available on the Orange County Website, as well as at
local libraries, the Department of Social Services (DSS), Community Centers and
various service providers throughout the County. The Application period will run
from February 1, 2019— February 8, 2019. Persons having questions or needing
assistance in completing the application may contact the Orange County Housing
Authority/Department of Housing and Community Development at (919) 245-
2490 or the TDD Number at (919) 644-3045.
OUTREACH AND MARKETING The new program will be announced on the County's website and through
newspaper ads beginning in mid-January 2019. In addition, OCHA will hold a
briefing for applicable area service providers. In addition, OCHA will provide
notification to applicable area agencies that fall within the 10-mile radius of the
County boundaries to facilitate cooperation and relationship-building as it relates
to the provision of services for our clients living in their jurisdictions.
