II. Outreach Process
Outreach Survey Results
Planning staff distributed surveys (see Appendix D) to citizens at the conclusion
of each township meeting as an additional means of determining the planning
issues of importance in Orange County. Although most citizens voiced their
opinions during the open discussion portion of the outreach meetings or while
talking with planning staff members after the meetings; some citizens elected to
express their opinion by filling out the "issues" survey. Thirty -nine citizens
responded to the survey, but an uneven number from each township responded.
Hillsborough and Little River township meetings had the most respondents.
Due to the relatively small sample size and a few surveys that were not properly
completed, Staff can only make general inferences from the survey data.
Therefore, staff has not provided actual statistics from the survey tabulation in
this summary.
Growth and Development
The survey found that respondents overwhelmingly feel that growth and
development are major issues of concern in their townships.
Issues of Importance
In addition to concern about growth and development in Orange County, the
survey asked about the degree of importance for issues under the following three
categories:
1.) Environment/Conservation
• Air pollution
• Natural resource protection
• Open space /wildlife corridor establishment
• Stormwater management
• Watershed protection
2.) Economic Prosperity
• Business development / employment opportunities
• Efficient public services
• Promotion of farming opportunities
• Maintaining property values
• Manageable tax rates
3.) Community Character / Equity
• Equitable distribution of new facilities
• Greater regional coordination
• Historic preservation
• Maintaining rural character
• A livable built community
11 -E -1
Z'1
