1-7
►►. Outreach Process
Outreach Meetings
SUMMARY OF MEETINGS
The Planning Department held numerous outreach meetings to receive feedback for
updating the Land Use Element of the Orange County Comprehensive Plan. Before the
official outreach meetings began, Staff held a number of preliminary meetings beginning
in 2000 with the Planning Board and Board of County Commissioners to develop ideas
for updating the LUE. The first meeting was a Joint Orange County Boards and
Commissions meeting, held at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill on
May 14, 2003, intended to get initial feedback on Staffs ideas and to begin generating
interest and discussion.
The second meeting was a Presentation Advisory meeting held on January 21, 2004 to
receive constrictive criticism on Staffs presentation, to be delivered at each of the
subsequent township meetings. Then, the Planning Department held an open house for
Orange County Staff to view the presentation and comment on the proposed changes to
the Land Use Element.
Next, Planning Staff held a series of seven public township meetings. Each township
meeting lasted approximately two hours, and the dates and locations for these meetings
are listed below in Table 3. Since completion of the township meetings, Staff made one
additional formal presentation on May 26, 2004 at the Holiday Inn Express in
Hillsborough for the County's Chambers of Commerce and area Civic Groups.
Additional informal presentations have been delivered to the Triangle J Council of
Governments Smart Growth Committee, the Orange County Board of Health, and New
Hope Creek Corridor Advisory Committee.
Table 3
Township Meetings
County Comprehensive Plan Land Use Element and Zoning
—All Meetings to be held from 7:00 — 9:00 p.m. -- --
Township
Date
Meeting Location
Chapel Hill
March 23 2004
Southern Human Serv.
