INTERSECTIONANALYSIS <br />Tocompletetheintersectionanalysis,thetrafficvolumesderivedfromthedevelopmentpodswere <br />appliedtothestudyintersectionsshowninfigure11.Traveldemandwasprojectedfrom2014Ͳ2025by <br />thetrendlineanalysismethod. <br />ThismethodprojectsAnnualAverageDailyTraffic(AADT)basedonhistoricaltrends.Trafficvolumes <br />overthepast15yearsinthisareahasincreasedat3%annuallyaccordingly.Trafficinthestudy <br />intersectionswereincreasedtotheyear2025bythatrate. <br />Boththe2014and2025trafficvolumesattheintersectionsareshowninthefollowingfigures.Cross <br />sectionsforthe5intersectionsweredeterminedbasedontheestimatedtrafficfromthecapacity <br />analysis,andcoordinationwithNCDOT.TheLevelofService(LOS)wascalculatedforeachnewand <br />existingintersectionusingSynchro.LOSisbasedonameasureoftheaveragetimedelayatan <br />intersectionandrangesfromAtoF,withAhavingtheshortestdelaytimeandFhavingthelongest. <br />AccordingtoNCDOTLevelofServiceDefinitionsthesixlevelsofservicearedefinedas: <br />LOSA:Describesprimarilyfreeflowconditions <br />LOSB:Representsreasonablyfreeflowconditions <br />LOSC:Providesforstableoperations,butflowsapproachtherangeinwhichsmallincreaseswillcause <br />substantialdeteriorationinservice <br />LOSD:Bordersonunstableflow <br />LOSE:Describesoperationatcapacity <br />LOSF:Describesforcedorbreakdownflow <br />ThefiveintersectionsstudiedbyVolkertwere: <br />1)NewRoadAatBenWilsonRoad <br />2)NewRoadAatWestTenRoad <br />3)WestTenRoadatBuckhornRoad <br />4)NewRoadHatMt.WillingRoad <br />5)USͲ70/IͲ85Connector <br />25 <br />84
