Draft bicycle safety posters <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Abigaile Pittman, Transportation/Land <br />Use Planner, 919-245-2567 <br />PURPOSE:Receive a reporton therecentactivities of the BSIS. <br />BACKGROUND:On June 5, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) received a <br />presentation from Planning staff regarding initial activities of the Bicycle Safety Campaign, <br />reviewedfourvideo public service announcements (PSAs) completed by the Cedar Ridge High <br />School Videography Club; and recognizedthe Videography students and their instructor. <br />Campaign initiativesto datehave included: <br />x The creation of the slogan ‘Ride Safely Drive Safely’ and logo; <br />x Design and distribution of brochures and posters; <br />x Social media ads and posts, and radio ads; <br />x The purchase of branded marketing items(“swag”); <br />x The purchase of fifteen bicycle safety road signsto be erectedat entry points to the <br />county and frequently used bicycle routes, and the <br />x The design and pending launch of the orangecountyncbicyclesafety.com website; in <br />collaboration with the Community Relations Department. <br />Current activities include: <br />x Campaign Posters -Designs for Campaign posters and brochures are being developed <br />andreviewed and will be developed by the Community Relations Department. Four <br />different posterswith bicycle safety themes coordinating withthe videos have been <br />drafted for review, (Attachment 1). Afifth draft poster targeted towards youthmay be <br />available for review at the OUTBoard meeting. <br />Next Steps <br />x Staff and the BSIS will continue to work on: <br />o The design and production of posters and brochures; <br />o Website design and launch, and <br />o Circulation of the video PSAs. <br />x Attendance at local events will begin this fall. <br />x The exact date for a Bike Rodeo will be coordinated with the Sheriff’s Department. <br />151
