July7,2014 <br />DavidS.Brame <br />PilotEnvironmental,Inc. <br />POBox128 <br />Kernersville,NC27285 <br />Re:ConstructRoadsona400AcreTract,WilsonRoad/BowmanRoad,Mebane,PEI1012, <br />OrangeCounty,ER14Ͳ1189 <br />DearMr.Brame: <br />ThankyouforyourletterofJune3,2014,transmittinginformationforourreviewconcerningtheabove <br />project. <br />Therearetwopreviouslyrecordedarchaeologicalsiteswithintheproposedprojectarea.Thesetwosites, <br />31OR640and31OR641,wererecordedduringasurveyfortheBuckhornͲMebaneEDDPhase2waterand <br />sewerimprovementsprojectbyOrangeCounty.Thearchaeologicalsurveywasconductedasaresultof <br />OrangeCountypolicy,notforSection106oftheNationalHistoricPreservationActcompliance,soour <br />officehasnotyetreceivedacompletecopyoftheresultingreport. <br />Theinformationwedohaveconcerningthesetwoarchaeologicalsitesindicatesthatonesite,31OR640 <br />containsaburiedculturalhorizonanditmaybeeligibleforinclusionintheNationalRegisterofHistoric <br />Places.Site31OR641hasbeenrecommendedasnoteligibleandnoadditionalworkisrecommendedby <br />theconsultant.Themapincludedwithyourrequestforcommentsdidnotindicatetheproposedlocations <br />fortheroads,soweareunabletodetermineifeithersitewillbeaffected. <br />IfyourprojectissubjecttoSection106,werecommendthatyouforwardspecificinformationregardingthe <br />locationsoftheproposedroadsandanyotherplansforthepropertysowemaydetermineeffects.Inthe <br />meantime,wewillrequestacopyofthearchaeologicalreportfromOrangeCountysowehavecomplete <br />siteinformation. <br />Wehavecheckedourmapsandfilesandfindthattherearethreepropertiesintheprojectareathatwere <br />identifiedina1993Ͳ1994countysurveyofhistoricbuildings.TheyaretheBenWilsonHouse(OR1141), <br />HeathLogHouse(OR1662)andL.M.RayHouse(OR1663).FromourGIS,theyappeartostillbestanding <br />andmayhaveoutbuildingsassociatedwiththem.Ifyourprojecthasthepotentialtoaffectthesebuildings, <br />theirpotentialforNationalRegistereligibilitywillneedtobedetermined. <br />51 <br />110
