May: 16 distinct juveniles, 20 complaints, 2 approved for court, 13 juveniles diverted, 0 juveniles
admitted to detention, 0 electronic monitoring activations, 4 days on electronic monitoring, and 0
juveniles committed to YDC.
April's charges included status offenses, simple assaults, communicating threats, and cyber bullying.
May's charges included status offenses, simple assaults, and communicating threats. There were no
felony charges either month.
JCPC Business
FY18-19 Membership Review—There are a couple new recommendations and seat changes: Gayane
Chambless is new, Meg McGurk is changing jobs and will be leaving the Business Community Seat
and switching to the "at-large" seat, and we also have 3 recommendations for youth—2 for Youth
Under 18 and 1 for"at-large" seat. One of the youth recommendations is Jaime Lescinki, sister to
JCPC member Kristi, and was recommended by Kate Giduz. Kate reports that Jaime volunteers with
Teen Court is always reliable and asking questions and seems very engaged in the community. Jaime
is a sophomore at Cedar Ridge and has been involved in Teen Court for about 2 years. Kate also
recommended Jay Cole who she knows through Teen Court as well. Jay is finishing up his freshman
year at Cedar Ridge and is the youngest attorney that Orange County Teen Court has had. Jay is also
active in athletics, was student body president in middle school, and has also expressed an interest.
Matthew Hinton, recommended by Sharron Hinton, is a sophomore at Cedar Ridge and has expressed
interest in the juvenile justice system and what is happening in the community with respect to
teenagers.
Donna King motioned that Gayane and Meg be recommended for County Commissioner appointee
and that the three youth be recommended for the remaining open seats (2 for Youth Under 18 and 1 for
County Commissioner appointee) and was seconded by Carol McClelland. Motion carried
unanimously.
The Member of Business Community seat is open and Meg has been trying to think of
recommendations but so far has not come up with anyone. She has asked that others be thinking of
recommendations for this seat as well.
Election of Officers—Denise stated that there needs to be more of a set, formal nomination process for
officers. Meg can appoint a member to be the chair of the nomination committee and Denise has
already drafted a structured email to help facilitate the nomination process. Donna King has
volunteered to be the chair of the nomination committee. Denise will send Donna the draft email to
send out and ask for nominations to be sent back to her. She will then reach out to those nominated to
determine interest in serving, and then present a slate of officers at the next meeting in August.
FY18-19 Annual Plan Review—Rebekah emailed the Annual Plan to the JCPC members prior to the
meeting for review. It is still a work in progress and but the majority of the plan is together. The
Annual Plan and Certification goes before the County Commissioners every year for review and
approval.
Hot Topic Discussion
Donna reminded everyone that it is tick and bug season and to be aware of it especially when youth are
outside and doing community service or other activities. Please remember to take appropriate
precautions (repellant,pants/long-sleeve shirts, etc.).
