Franklin Street <br />Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> <br />Members Present: Jim Kitchen, Paige Zinn, Mark O’Neal, John Anderson, Anthony Carey, Keith Coleman, <br />Sharon Hill, Delores Bailey <br /> <br />Orange County Staff: Travis Myren, Steve Brantley, Yvonne Scarlett, Mike Ortosky, Amanda Garner, Tina Love <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order Jim Kitchen, Chair. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Minutes from the March 20, 2018 meeting were approved by consensus. <br /> <br />Old Business <br />• Advisory Board Annual Work Plan/Report – Paige Zinn <br />o Discussed grants with Commissioners – very supportive and nothing negative <br />o Travis indicated redirection from loan programs to increase grant programs <br />o Commissioners were surprised at number of applications versus funds available <br /> <br />• 2018 Orange County Economic Summit – Steve Brantley <br />o Summit format and date approved with 30K from Article 46 funds <br />o Event will be Wednesday, October 10, 2018 <br />o WCHL will host 4 topics with each being an hour with a social to follow <br />o Event will take place at the Whitted Building in Hillsborough <br />o Streaming capabilities will be included in broadcast <br /> <br />New Business <br />• Business Grant Awards <br />o Funds were depleted for the year with 14 grants awarded from 23 applications <br />• Advisory Board Membership <br />o Request that Mark O’Neal’s term be extended, reappoint 3 members for a second term, and <br />replace the non-profit position and one of the core business positions. <br />• Article 46 <br />o Handed out chart of money collected and spent <br />o Discussion on monies going to Durham Tech and tracking it <br />• S.W.O.T. Analysis: Discussion on Final Report <br />o BOCC to convene in the fall for final report, the Advisory Board would like to meet with the new <br />members prior the Commissioners meeting on it. <br />o Discussions included pre-zoning areas, setting priorities on projects, policy statements, areas <br />south, meeting one on one with Commissioners or closed sessions. Industries to recruit, food <br />systems and warehousing. Creation of a 5 to 10 page executive summary and history of EDDs, <br />water boundaries and agreements and sewer. <br /> <br />Adjournment <br /> <br /> <br />Economic Development Advisory Board – next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 11, 2018
