<br />1601 Eubanks Road | Chapel Hill, NC 27516 | phone: (919) 942-7387 <br />http://orangecountync.gov/animalservices <br /> <br /> <br />ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />September 19, 2018 <br /> <br />Animal Services News <br /> <br /> Clear The Shelters (August 18, 2018) <br />o Very successful with a total of 48 same-day adoptions for us <br />o WRAL reported 1,828 adoptions locally and over 98,000 nationwide! <br /> <br /> Hurricane Florence <br />o Orange County Opened 2 co-location shelters at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill and CW <br />Stanford in Hillsborough <br /> Smith operated Wednesday, 9/12 – Sunday, 9/16 <br /> Stanford operated Wednesday, 9/12 – Saturday, 9/15 <br /> Both locations had staff and volunteers from Animal Services there 24/7 in teams of 1-2 <br /> Mostly dogs present, but several rabbits and a few cats as well <br />o Orange County opened another co-location shelter on Monday, 9/17 at Hillsborough Commons <br /> No pets there yet <br /> Animal Services staffed it for the first 24 hours <br /> We are now on-call for assistance if and when animals arrive <br />o Animal Services also had staff on site at the AS Center for several days during the storm to care <br />for the animals in our own custody <br />o We are exploring ways in which we can make resources available to the state-run shelter at <br />UNC’s Friday Center <br /> <br /> Upcoming Events <br />o The next Low-Cost Rabies Vaccination Clinic is on Thursday, 9/27, at the Farmer’s Market on <br />Margaret Lane in Hillsborough from 5pm – 7pm. <br /> The 9/29 clinic has been cancelled and will be rescheduled as soon as possible. <br /> It was cancelled due to conflicts in scheduling with LocalFest, which still needs <br />volunteers. Contact Molly Weybright (mweybright@orangecountync.gov) with any <br />volunteering questions or offers for LocalFest! <br />o Spay/Neuter Day: October 17th (sign up by October 3rd) <br />o October is Dog Adoption Month! <br /> Reduced adoption fees for all dogs and puppies <br /> <br /> Miscellaneous: <br /> Thanks to a generous donation, we now have warming blankets for our surgery animals <br /> Currently filling the 3 final staffing vacancies <br /> Trees near the easement are staying (power lines will be buried along that stretch)
