Page 2 of 3 Tom Gray <br />Supplemental Questions: <br />Orange County Planning Board (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT) <br />Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br />As a civil engineer, I am familiar with engineering and planning activities associated with <br />balancing the demands of development, budget and asset management, and natural resources <br />preservation. <br />Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br />I have an interest in serving my community and contributing my knowledge of roadway and <br />greenway facilities planning and design and water resources management to help where needed. <br />Conflict of Interest: <br />There could be a perceived business interest, because I am employed by a private engineering <br />firm. <br />Orange Unified Transportation Board <br />Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br />I am a practicing civil engineer with a background in water resources management, planning and <br />design with an emphasis on roadway and greenway planning and design. <br />Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br />I enjoy outdoor activities, and I believe parks and recreational facilities are one of the more <br />important assets of a community. I would like to participate in helping make decisions about <br />how community recreational facilities are maintained, upgraded and expanded. <br />Conflict of Interest: <br />Because I work for a private consulting firm, information shared with or received from this board <br />may be perceived as being a conflict of interest; however, I am confident I would be able to <br />separate my work from my interest to serve my community. <br />Orange County Planning Board (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT) <br />Please list the work/volunteer experience/qualifications that would add to your expertise <br />for this board. <br />15 year of civil engineering experience related to watershed management, floodplain <br />management, roadway and greenway design. <br />Graduate of Hillsborough Citizen s Academy <br />Volunteer with Town of Chapel Hill Stormwater Department <br />What do you see as the responsibilities of this board, and what do you hope to <br />accomplish if appointed? <br />I see the foremost responsibility being a contribution of honest evaluations and consideration of <br />all citizen viewpoints <br />I hope to be able to share my professional expertise where it is useful <br />What unique perspective can you bring to the Orange County Planning Board? <br />I have an engineering perspective for planning <br />I actively use state and local recreation facilities, and have an appreciation for camping, hiking, <br />hunting, fishing and natural resources preservation <br />I am beginning to experiment with small-scale farming and have an appreciation for the planning <br />of how agricultural land within the county is managed and preserved <br />11
