She asked if lessons learned from preparations for Florence can carry over
to a Michael-type event, especially in regards to communication.
Chair Dorosin said he does not think these two events are comparable.
Commissioner Rich said she understands that, and maybe she is asking for more
communication in an event like Michael.
Chair Dorosin asked if, when looking at staffing issues, would it be possible to have a
fund to supplement salaries during emergency events; a stipend of sorts.
Commissioner Price said as colder weather begins, it would be helpful to look at more
vulnerable areas, and egress and ingress of certain roads. She said it would also be good to
look at the community centers more closely.
Travis Myren said the community center managers were very cooperative during
hurricanes Florence and Michael.
Commissioner Jacobs said hurricane Florence moved very slowly, while Michael
moved at a rapid speed. He said there was pet sheltering during these two events, which the
County instituted after Hurricane Katrina.
Commissioner Rich asked if everyone has power on in Orange County.
Travis Myren said yes.
Commissioner McKee said the response of the County personnel was exemplary, as
well as that of the power crews.

8.
