18 <br /> <br /> <br />Quintana Stewart, Health Department Director, and Dr. Michael Day, Dental Director, <br />made the following PowerPoint presentation: <br /> <br />Dental Health Services in Southern Orange County <br />Quintana Stewart, Health Director <br />Dr. Michael Day, Dental Director <br /> <br />Background <br /> Prior to June 30, 2011, Orange County Health Department Dental Clinic operated in two <br />locations – 2 days per week at Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro and 2 ½ days per week in <br />Hillsborough. <br /> Carr Mill Mall Clinic closed when lease expired June 30, 2011. <br /> Rent was $62,000/yr <br /> Space needed lots of renovation <br /> Carr Mill Mall clinic served 1,495 patients in the last year in operation <br /> To absorb the former patients from the Carrboro Clinic, the Hillsborough Dental Clinic <br />was renovated to include 8 dental chairs and began operating 5 days per week and <br />continues to do so today. <br /> Plans to add a dental clinic to the Southern Human Services site during their upcoming <br />renovations to reinstate health department dental services in the Southern part of the <br />County <br /> <br />Current Situation <br /> 39% of current patient population at Hillsborough Dental Clinic (1,199 patients) have a <br />mailing address in either Chapel Hill or Carrboro. <br /> Dental Services in Orange: <br /> Piedmont Health Services (x2) <br /> UNC School of Dentistry <br /> UNC SHAC (limited services) <br /> <br />Proposal <br /> OCHD asks Commissioners to consider a change to proposed SHSC renovations to <br />include procurement of a Mobile Dental Clinic rather than the permanent build of a <br />dental clinic. <br /> The mobile unit frees up additional needed space for DSS at SHSC <br /> Allows for County Dental Services to be made available in Southern Orange as well as <br />other parts of the County <br /> Expands the OCHD Dental Program <br /> <br />Dr. Day presented this portion of the PowerPoint: <br /> <br />Mobile Dental Clinic <br />• $456,825 (equipment included) <br />• 2 operatories, MSV Series 4000-37-102 (Matthews Specialty Vehicles) <br />• Staffing – Hillsborough Staff and 1 additional 0.5 FTE (Driver/Office Assistant) <br /> <br />Mobile Clinic Examples <br />• the mobile clinic would be fully branded, inside and out, as the Orange County Mobile <br />Dental Clinic
