5 <br /> Artists and organizations that either reside in Carrboro or serve Carrboro youth <br /> were awarded art grant funds, to include: <br /> • The ArtsCenter <br /> • The Art Therapy Institute <br /> • Boomerang Youth <br /> • Carrboro Elementary School PTA <br /> • Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation <br /> • Ben Hamburger <br /> • Salome McNutt <br /> • Musical Empowerment <br /> • Renzo Ortega <br /> • Nancy Smith <br /> • The Women's Theatre Festival <br /> Additional joint projects between the OCAC and Carrboro included the <br /> following: <br /> • The Walls We Build: This Triangle-wide project was an artist response to <br /> social justice and current political division. It took place in June of 2018 and <br /> featured art exhibits throughout the Triangle corresponding with each <br /> community art walk. The Orange County Arts Commission was an <br /> underwriter of this project through the 2017-18 grant cycle; participating <br /> Carrboro venues included The Guest Room, The ArtsCenter, Framer's <br /> Corner, and Town of Carrboro Century Center. <br /> • ArtSparks! This program underwritten by the OCAC allowed The ArtsCenter <br /> to work with local community organizations to distribute free to tickets to <br /> family-based performances as part of the 2017-18 Season. Approximately <br /> 400 free tickets were distributed through local organizations serving at-risk <br /> populations. <br /> • Frederick Douglas Bicentennial Celebration: This county-wide event took <br /> place throughout Orange County and featured readings, panel discussions, <br /> and performances over several months. Both the OCAC and the Town of <br /> Carrboro participated in the initiative, as well as The ArtsCenter. <br /> Staff will provide any other information at the meeting, and the governing boards <br /> can discuss issues related to this item as necessary. <br /> No Attachments <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goals are <br /> applicable to this item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and <br /> funding necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and <br /> medical care for themselves and their dependents. <br />
