3 <br /> Planning staff from the County & Town will meet to discuss a joint planning process <br /> that could address development potential for the Highway N.C. 54 West parcels, and <br /> the Old N.C. 86 property. <br /> Staff will provide any other information at the meeting, and the governing boards can <br /> discuss issues related to this item as necessary. <br /> Attachment 3a — Development Opportunities in Carrboro <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is <br /> applicable to this item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and <br /> funding necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical <br /> care for themselves and their dependents. <br /> b) Joint Collaboration to Promote Tourism, the Arts & Small Business Growth <br /> Economic development collaboration between Orange County & the Town of <br /> Carrboro over the past year has included several positive initiatives to promote the <br /> expansion and retention of locally owned businesses, and promotion of tourism and <br /> the arts. Those activities will remain a primary focus for the Town and County <br /> economic development staff to pursue and expand for the current fiscal year. New <br /> initiatives will include closer communication regarding the sharing of real estate <br /> listing for available retail and office space, more joint County/Town visits with local <br /> businesses, and increased consideration of potential collaboration for joint marketing <br /> and advertising resources. <br /> (1) Support for Locally Owned Small Businesses — Examples of Collaboration <br /> • Orange County Economic Development staff visited with 42 Carrboro- <br /> based companies in the past year as part of the national Small Business <br /> Week annual observance on April 30th. County staff also joined with <br /> Carrboro economic developer Annette Stone on June 25th to address the <br /> Carrboro Business Alliance to discuss the County's small business loan & <br /> grant assistance program, and the Town's business loan programs. <br /> • Orange County Economic Development awarded small business grants <br /> totaling $26,500 to five (5) local Carrboro businesses, as follows: <br /> Carrboro Community Acupuncture $5,000 <br /> ➢ Carrboro Plumbing $10,000 <br /> ➢ Carrboro Massage Therapy $1,500 <br /> ➢ Pilot Mission LLC DBA PlaneLogiX $4,500 <br /> ➢ Arete Float Tank $5,000 <br /> (2) Tourism Promotion — Examples of Collaboration <br /> • The Orange County Visitors Bureau's promoted Music Fest in online social <br /> media. <br />
