2 <br /> 1 he can no longer fly due to the size restrictions. He asked the Board if it would consider <br /> 2 amending the regulation. He said he had a relative die years ago due of the slow ambulance <br /> 3 service to the northern part of Orange County, and asked if the Board would look into improving <br /> 4 this service. He said there is a fire station on St. Mary's road, but it has no firefighters and has <br /> 5 been empty for 10 years. He asked if the Board would look into saving historical sites such as <br /> 6 gristmills around the Town of Hillsborough. He said there are no regulations in Orange County <br /> 7 to protect historical items that reside on private property. He said the County needs do a better <br /> 8 job of funding their schools. He asked if the Board would notify him about the flag issue, as he <br /> 9 has no phone or Internet. <br /> 10 Chair Dorosin asked if he would give his contact information to the Clerk and staff will be <br /> 11 in touch. <br /> 12 Jamie Paulen said she supported the Board's comments on the removal of the Silent <br /> 13 Sam statue. <br /> 14 Bill Ward said he is a member of Commission for the Environment, but he is speaking <br /> 15 for himself. He said the board passed a resolution in 2017 about renewable energy sources. <br /> 16 He said much has happened to mitigate climate change, including joining the Global Covenant <br /> 17 of Mayors for Climate and Energy, and beginning the greenhouse gas inventory. He said two of <br /> 18 the biggest contributors to the greenhouse gases are public transportation and utilities. He <br /> 19 gave examples of ways cities and countries are addressing these concerns, such as battery <br /> 20 operated boats and electric vehicles. He said there is great frustration with the federal <br /> 21 government in the United States. <br /> 22 Ivy Barger thanked the Board of County Commissioners for its statement in support of <br /> 23 the removal of the Silent Sam statue. <br /> 24 Heather Redding thanked the Board of County Commissioners for their statement in <br /> 25 support of the removal of Silent Sam. <br /> 26 Keith Percy thanked the Board of County Commissioners on its strong statement in <br /> 27 support of the removal of the Silent Sam statue. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 30 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda <br /> 31 below.) <br /> 32 <br /> 33 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 34 Commissioner Price commended those that put on, and participate in, summer youth <br /> 35 programs throughout the County. <br /> 36 Commissioner Burroughs said the Family Success Alliance's (FSA) second major <br /> 37 funder, the United Way, has delayed the reapplication process until the spring, but will continue <br /> 38 to fund the FSA. <br /> 39 Commissioner Burroughs said the Board has been invited to the FSA strategic planning, <br /> 40 and she gave a shout out to Commissioner Marcoplos who spent two full days participating in <br /> 41 this process. <br /> 42 Commissioner Rich said the Food Council continues to work on several projects such as <br /> 43 promoting and preserving food waste in Orange County. She thanked farmer Ken Larsen, who <br /> 44 rolled off the Council. <br /> 45 Commissioner Rich said the Visitor's Bureau (VB) is trying to think of ways to <br /> 46 collaborate with the Chapel Hill VB, rather than duplicating efforts. <br /> 47 Commissioner Rich said she is on a group called WE POWER, who is a group of <br /> 48 women out of the Piedmont Food Processing Center, trying to empower women entrepreneurs <br /> 49 in the food business. <br />
