For these public health issues, increasing
attention is being paid to social determinants of health -- broad social and economic factors that
impact health. The availability of transportation to access health care, to buy healthy food or to
get to work is one critical determinant of health. While I have not directly worked on
transportation issues, I have conducted community assessments which have included the
assessment of transportation needs as a critical component of efforts to promote health. I
recently served on the Orange County Board of Health and am knowledgeable about some of
the county's needs in the area of transportation to further improve the health of our community.
In addition to my professional interests, I am an avid recreational biker. Prior to moving to NC in
2015, 1 commuted to work by either bike or public transportation and thus have direct experience
related to the needs of bikers and commuters. I believe I can bring relevant professional and
personal experience to the Transportation Board.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
I am deeply committed to ensuring that all members of the community are able to live healthy
lives and view transportation as a critical element of a healthy community. I am very interested
in ensuring that Orange County continues to build a network of public transportation that will
serve all members of the community. In addition, I valued my time on the OC Board of Health
and would like to continue to apply my experience and interests to improve life in Orange County
