After successfully completing that initial ride, the Spoke'n Revolutions
(SnR) Youth Cycling program was born in 2011. The SnR program has developed into an
afterschool and summer program where teens are prepared to successfully complete
history-filled cycling journey of 500 miles or more. Through these adventures, youth realize
their strength and increase confidence and leadership skills, preparing them to be active
and healthy members of their community.
SnR is now moving into it's seventh season, having cycled over 6,300 miles. Past tour
routes include the Underground Railroad, the Lewis and Clark Trail, and the Atlanta, GA to
Washington, DC ride linking the Dr. King Historic Site with the Dr. King Memorial. Tour
routes have also included the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor and the Cherokee
Trail of Tears.
The Spoken' Revolutions project was born out of the need to provide youth of color with
avenues for health and educational enrichment when traditional sports and school curricula
weren't serving their needs. The program gives youth of color access to bicycles, gear,
training expertise and cycling experiences that are usually out of reach for this population.
e) Other Pertinent Agency Information (Ex.
