Students write in
journals to improve writing skills and process what they are learning. The intensive
two week camp period is also an ideal environment for staff to work with campers on
softer skills such as teamwork, communication skills and conflict resolution.
SnR staff administer pre and post tour surveys that measure the knowledge, skills
and abilities of campers. Survey topics include the history and environmental
science subject matter that is covered on the tour route. We expect the summer
gains shown in these surveys to translate into increased engagement in the
classroom.
The SnR afterschool program is free to students and they are supported in raising a
portion of the cost of their summer tour. Transportation is provided to students for
afterschool training rides, educational sessions, and throughout the summer
tour.
