Artists in Residence (AIR) residencies (formerly Arts-In-
Education) reach every class in three Title 1 elementary schools in the Orange County
School system. Afterschool Arts Immersion serves elementary schoolers, Youth Art
Classes serve 1st— 6th graders, and summer ArtsCamps serve rising Kindergartners — 12th
graders. Participants are reached through printed material sent directly through schools to
parents, school social workers, teachers, and counselors often help identify students
needing scholarship and help guide parents to our services.
Last year, The ArtsCenter provided more than 29,777 youth experiences and gave $42,538
in youth scholarships.
g) Describe the credentials of the program manager and other key staff. (Ex. Identify Program
Manager and credentials, describe training provided to volunteers, etc.)
Under the leadership of Executive Director, Daniel Y. Mayer, the primary activities will be
coordinated by: Youth Education Coordinator, Jesse Hollars; and Artist in Residence
Coordinator, Virginia Queen Danford. Their credentials are listed below.
Dan Mayer, The ArtsCenter's Executive Director since August 2015, has decades of non-
profit management experience from the Kirkland Performance Center, PARKWAY III
Consulting, and the NEA, among other organizations. He brings a balanced artistic vision
with business acumen. Mayer's educational background includes a BA in Political Science
and Art History from Claremont McKenna College, a JD from Case Western Reserve
University, and an Arts Administration Fellowship from the National Endowment for the
Arts (NEA).
Jesse Hollars, who joined us in 2014, is our Youth Education Coordinator for Afterschool
Arts Immersion, ArtCamps, Artist in Residence, School Shows, and Youth Art Classes.
Jessie Hollars graduated from UNC-CH with a degree in gender studies in 2012 and is a
textile artist.
Mayer and Hollars work closely with our Artist in Residence Coordinator, Virginia Queen
Danford, who has been an actor and teaching artist for more than two decades; Danford
has managed similar school residency programs in NY and NC. Danford received her BAF
in Acting from West Virginia University and her MFA from Pennsylvania State University.
PROGRAM INFORMATION 2/8/2017 5:24:23 PM Page 14 of 20
