J'Wi11 �. <br />111 West Corbin St. <br />Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />June 21, 1993 <br />94 <br />TO: Other Members of the Task Force on the Process for Electing <br />Orange County Commissioners <br />FROM: Rich Hammer <br />SUBJECT: May 1990 voting data which shows a sharp division within <br />Orange County, between city and rural parts <br />In the spring of 1990 I got active in County politics, attempting <br />to speak on behalf of rural property owners who dislike controls <br />imposed by County government. <br />After running in the Republican primary that May, I studied the <br />votes and compared the trends in the two parts of the county. The <br />contrast between the two parts can be seen most clearly in the votes <br />cast in the Democratic primary, in which there were eight active <br />candidates running for three seats. <br />Attached you will find a copy of a column which I wrote at that <br />time, and (should you be interested) a spreadsheet of the data. Also. <br />in the table below I summarize the data in that vote.
