(Local) <br />Sponsors: Representative Faison, <br />Referred to: <br />A BILL, TO BE ENTITLED <br />AN ACT TO EXPAND THE BOARD OF COMIvIISSIONER.S OF ORANGE <br />COUNTY AND PROVIDE FOR DISTRICT ELECTION OF MOST OF ITS <br />MEMBERS. <br />The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: <br />SECTION 1. Effective the first Monday in December of 2006, the Board of <br />Commissioners of Orange County shall consist of seven members. <br />SECTION 2. In 2006 and quadrennially thereafter, one member shall be <br />nominated and elected by the qualified members of the entire county. <br />SECTION 3. In 2006 and biennially thereafter, two members shall be <br />elected from District A to serve four -year terms. <br />SECTION 4. The two members elected at -large in 2004 shall serve the <br />remainder of their unexpired term. <br />SECTION 5. In 2006, one member shall be elected from District B to serve <br />a two -year term. In 2008 and quadrennially thereafter, the District B member shall be <br />elected to a four -year term. <br />SECTION 6. In 2006 and quadrennially thereafter, one member shall be <br />elected from District C to serve a four -year term. <br />SECTION 7. District A consists of Chapel Hill Township. District B <br />consists of Eno Township, Hillsborough Township and Efland Precinct. District C <br />consists of Bingham Township, Cheeks Precinct, Cedar Grove Township and Little <br />River Township. <br />SECTION 8. The qualified voters of each district shall nominate candidates <br />and elect members who reside in the district for seats apportioned to that district. <br />SECTION 9. Sections 1 through 8 of this act shall only become effective if <br />approved by the qualified voters of Orange County. The Orange County Board of <br />
