Together they form a community partnership
spending a few hours each month exploring activities they both enjoy, for example going to the
movies, eating out, playing sports, taking a hike.
d) Agency's History with Providing These Services: The Arc of the Triangle originally
formed thirty-eight years ago to serve individuals with Intellectual and Developmental
Disabilities (I/DD) living in Orange County, North Carolina. Where no other similar agencies
existed, The Arc identified the need to provide people with healthy and purposeful life
choices. Through the success of these programs The Arc expanded to include Supported
Employment and Social and Volunteer Opportunities. What began then as a small
organization in 1979, The Arc of Orange County, recently merged with Durham and Wake
County, forming The Arc of the Triangle. The goal is to provide Durham and Wake County
residents with the same high quality and high level of service that Orange County residents
have become accustomed to over the years. Other programs and agencies that were
similar to The Arc have gone out of business due to decreased funding or due to a lack of
quality and comprehensive services.
e) Other Pertinent Agency Information (Ex. Has the agency experienced any major changes
in the past year? is there a new Executive Director? Are there new initiatives?) Effective
November 2016, Robin Baker is no longer the Executive Director of The Arc. A search
committee has been formed and started the process of interviewing and hiring a new
Executive Director.
