A <br />summary of each item proposed for public hearing is provided. Full text is scheduled to be <br />forwarded May 13~h. Staff is available to answer questions or research issues prior to the public <br />hearing. <br />A. PUBLIC HEARING ITEMS <br />1. Orange County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance Amendments <br />PURPOSE: Orange County proposes amendments to the existing Flood Damage <br />Prevention Ordinance, The County first joined the FEMA -National Flood Insurance <br />Program (NFIP) in 1975 and entered the regular phase of the NFIP an March 16, 1981 when <br />it enacted the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. This is also the same effective date of <br />the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) flood maps referenced in the ordinance. The BOCC <br />last revised the ordinance in 1995. <br />The revisions are proposed because the State of North Carolina Emergency Management <br />has developed a new model flood damage prevention ordinance for non coastal jurisdictions <br />like Orange County, Amendments that go beyond the minimum flood damage prevention <br />standards are required forjurisdictionstyanting to participate in the Community Rating <br />System (CRS) program, Region IV of FEMA (the Atlanta region, which includes the <br />
