Recommended PPE (minimum required) for use <br /> while performing specific tasks includes: <br /> All Patient Contact Requires Gloves! <br /> Task Gown or Mask and <br /> Coveralls eye <br /> protection <br /> Bleeding control, spurting blood Yes Yes <br /> Bleeding control, minimal bleeding No No <br /> Childbirth Yes Yes <br /> IV insertion No No <br /> ET Tube placement No Yes <br /> Suctioning, splashing likely No Yes <br /> Suctioning, splashing unlikely No No <br /> Medication administration No No <br /> Other tasks require personnel to utilize PPE based on the risk of exposure to potentially <br /> infectious materials. <br /> • Personnel are encouraged to use maximal rather than minimal PPE for each <br /> situation. <br /> • While complete control of the emergency scene is not possible, scene operations <br /> as much as possible will attempt to limit splashing, spraying, or aerosolization of <br /> body fluids. <br /> • The minimum number of personnel required to complete the task safely will be <br /> used for all on-scene operations. Personnel not immediately needed, will remain <br /> a safe distance from operations so that possible communicable disease <br /> exposure for extra personnel is reduced. <br /> • Hand washing is the most important Exposure Control procedure. <br /> • Members will wash hands: <br /> o After removing PPE. <br /> o After each patient contact. <br /> o After handling potentially infectious materials. <br /> o After cleaning or decontaminating equipment. <br /> o After using the bathroom. <br /> o Before eating. <br /> o Before and after handling or preparing food. <br /> Revised July,2018 <br />
