DocuSign Envelope ID:79C5D167-B6CA-4E59-B4AC-AA38CC1 B20BD <br /> Orange County Emergency Services "* <br /> Exposure Control Policy F <br /> 17 32 <br /> Standard Operating Procedures <br /> EC 4: Personal Protective Equipment: <br /> • PPE PROVISION: <br /> o Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that required PPE is available in <br /> all ambulances as well as the stations. <br /> o All PPE used will be provided without cost to the employee. <br /> o PPE will be chosen based on the anticipated exposure to blood or other <br /> potentially infectious materials (OPIM). <br /> o The PPE will be considered appropriate if it does not permit blood or <br /> OPIM to pass through or reach the employees' clothing, skin, eyes, mouth <br /> or other mucous membranes under normal conditions of use and for the <br /> duration of time that the PPE will be used. <br /> • PPE USE: <br /> o Supervisors shall ensure and enforce employee use of appropriate PPE. <br /> • PPE ACCESSIBILITY: <br /> o Supervisors shall ensure that appropriate PPE in the appropriate sizes is <br /> readily accessible at the work site or is issued without cost to employees. <br /> Hypoallergenic gloves, glove liners, powderless gloves, or other similar <br /> alternatives shall be readily accessible to those employees who are <br /> allergic to the gloves normally provided. <br /> • PPE CLEANING, LAUNDERING and DISPOSAL: <br /> o All personal protective equipment will be cleaned, laundered, or disposed <br /> of by the employer at no cost to the employees. The employer makes all <br /> repairs and replacements with no cost to employees. <br /> o All garments that are penetrated by blood shall be removed immediately <br /> or as soon as feasible. All PPE will be removed prior to leaving the work <br /> area. <br /> o When PPE is removed, it shall be placed in an appropriately designated <br /> area or container for storage, washing, decontamination, or disposal. <br /> Revised July,2018 <br />
