Under no circumstances will personnel, due to the possibility <br /> of family contamination, wash contaminated work clothes at home by <br /> infectious or chemical agents. <br /> o All personnel will maintain extra clean work uniforms in the station, so that <br /> potentially contaminated uniforms can be exchanged and washed upon <br /> return to the station. <br /> o All linen used for patient transport is considered contaminated. Linen will <br /> be exchanged by the medical facility receiving the patient, if possible. If <br /> not, the linen will be secured in a linen bag in the ambulance or at the <br /> station. Contaminated linen will not be washed in station laundry facilities. <br /> Contaminated linen will be transported to UNC hospital for <br /> decontamination. Appropriate PPE for handling of potentially <br /> contaminated linen will consist of a minimum of disposable gloves. <br /> • KITCHEN AREA: <br /> o Kitchens will be equipped with double sinks constructed of nonporous <br /> materials. <br /> o Food preparation areas, counter tops, and cutting boards will be <br /> constructed of nonporous materials. <br /> o Under no circumstances will any kitchen facility be used for the purpose of <br /> cleaning, sterilizing, disinfecting, storing, or disposal of any infectious <br /> material or waste. <br /> o Food will be properly prepared and cooked. Hands will be washed before <br /> and after preparing food. Food will be returned to the refrigerator before <br /> leaving the station if a meal is interrupted by a call. Consumption of food <br /> or drink will not be allowed in the patient care areas of ambulances. <br /> • BATHROOM AREAS: <br /> o Bathrooms will have push-to-open doors without handles. <br /> o Disposable hand-drying materials will be used. Cloth towels will not be <br /> used. <br /> o Personnel will have access to shower facilities for use in the event of <br /> blood or OPIM soak through the person's uniform and grossly contaminate <br /> the skin. Soiled towels will be placed with other used linen in <br /> contaminated linen containers for transport to UNC Hospital. <br /> • SLEEPING AREAS: <br /> o Suitable sleeping quarters will be furnished for on-duty personnel to <br /> accommodate downtime while on duty. <br /> o Adequate ventilation will be provided and HVAC system will be maintained <br /> and in a safe working condition. <br /> Revised July,2018 <br />
