Orange County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee <br />Meeting Minutes, July 10, 2018 <br /> 5:30pm, Seymour Center, Chapel Hill, NC <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER by Vibeke Talley, Chair <br />Members Present: Martha Bell, Annie Deaver (Department On Aging), Carol Kelly, Jackie <br />Podger, Jerry Ann Gregory, Stephanie Boswell, Karen Macklin, Vibeke Talley (Chair), Susie <br />Deter, Jerry Schreiber, Molly Stein, Stephanie Miller, Jennifer Link (Ombudsman) <br /> <br />OLD BUSINESS; <br />• Discussion/Approval May 1, 2018 Minutes: Reviewed with the following corrections: <br />Stephanie Miller was present at meeting. <br />The Brookshire report date was wrong, should have been dated 4-24-2018. Correction <br />made. <br />The Carol Woods report dated 2-23-2018 was discussed and approved at the March <br />meeting. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />• New Member: Stephanie Boswell has been approved by the Ombudsman Office and <br />has joined the committee as a member. She introduced herself and the committee <br />welcomed her <br /> <br />• Site Visit Reports (Corrections needed will be compiled and written by Jennifer Link) <br />o Carolina Point report from visit 5-15-2018 accepted as written. <br />o Carol Woods report from visit 6-22-2018 accepted as written. <br />o Signature report from visit 6-30-2018 accepted with corrections. <br /> <br />• Ombudsmand report by Jennifer Link: The Div of Health and Human Services are <br />collecting information about which facilities are getting the most complaints. She is <br />working closely with Signature to decrease the number of complaints received. <br />• Also discussed NY Times article concerning nursing homes overstating staffing for years. <br />Susie Deter had forwarded this article to committee members prior to meeting. <br /> <br />• Department on Aging Report: Annie Deaver is the new Aging Transitions <br />Administrator. She introduced herself and the committee welcomed her. <br /> <br />• Friends of Residents in Long Term Care: Carol Kelly has joined this group and <br />provided the following information: The website for the organization is www.forltc.org. <br />It is an independent, nonprofit organization (501c3), committed to advancing the quality <br />of life for individuals who receive long-term care in North Carolina. At present the <br />organization’s priorities include legislative efforts such as increasing the Personal Needs <br />Allowances, a monthly NC allocation by Medicaid for personal items; increasing funding <br />of the Ombudsman Program, submitting a proposal for changes to the CMS 4-star ratings <br />of nursing homes. Carol encourages OCNHCAC members to join the organization and <br />read items on its website for further information.
